Member Services Manager, Canyon Country Youth Corps

Position Title: CCYC Member Services Manager

Reports to: CCDC Stewards Director/Finance/HR Director

Status: Full-Time Exempt

Salary Grade: $30,000 to $32,000 (DOE)

 

Program Summary

The Canyon Country Youth Corps (CCYC) is a program operated by the Canyon County Discovery Center (CCDC) in Monticello, Utah. CCYC provides opportunities for youth and young adults to participate in service projects on public lands in Southeastern Utah in partnership with the land-managing agencies of the region. Service Projects include trail maintenance and construction; fence construction, repair or demolition; habitat restoration; mechanical and non-mechanical vegetation thinning; invasive species removal and treatment; and other conservation related projects in backcountry and front country settings. 

 

CCDC Mission

The Canyon Country Discovery Center creates lifelong learning experiences about the Colorado Plateau through adventure, education, and stewardship.

 

Position Summary 

The CCYC Member Services Manager is responsible for the facilitation of the member experience while serving with CCYC. The Member Services Manager oversees the hiring of all AmeriCorps members from Field Boss to Crew Leaders and corps members, the administration of two AmeriCorps grants, the tracking of purchases done by members, and the software required to manage timesheets and member service hours.  They will also assist with training. The Member Services Manager reports to the CCDC Stewardship Director and the Finance/HR Director. This is primarily an office-based position. Subsidized housing is available. 

 

DUTIES

Administration/HR - 75%

  • Directs the hiring of all AmeriCorps Members with assistance from CCYC staff (as needed)

  • Continuously Improve and Implement marketing materials such as displays, flyers, brochures, and posters and distribute them widely in the region for each crew session

  • Complete timely recruiting visits to schools and community partners that enhance presence in the region

  • Develop and place advertisements in newspapers, newsletters, and the Internet

  • Attend job fairs as necessary and/or assigned by CCDC Management

  • Interview and hire all crew members and leaders for each crew session

  • Manage CCYC’s social media account

  • Report on AmeriCorps grant deliverables

  • Create and post job descriptions and applications for all crew leader and crew member positions

  • Interview and hire approximately 6 crew leaders and 20 to 40 crew members per year

  • Oversee all crew leader and crew member hiring paperwork and paper files with IPT software

  • Process and file all crew leader and crew member hiring and program paperwork (including purchase paperwork) in an orderly manner

  • Implement existing program components such as education, training, etc.

  • Help develop educational resources for crewmembers during, and post their CCYC experience

  • Mentor crewmembers through regular check-ins and occasional visits to the field

  • Assist in development and implementation of crew leader training and specific crew trainings

  • Oversee the facilitation of the CWC/CCYC writing program

  • Provides crews with professional feedback in a structured environment.

  • Serves as a role model, resource, mediator, and advisor for crews.

  • Maintains a positive and professional attitude at all times.

  • Ensures compliance with CCYC/CCDC safety policies and procedures by issuing warnings and dismissing members from the program when necessary.

  • Keeps member files up to date and in line with AmeriCorps regulations

  • Attend AmeriCorps meetings as assigned on a regular basis in the region

 

Training - 15%

  • Assists Stewardship Director and Field Manager and related staff on the training of all field bosses, crew leaders and crew members

  • Leads training of AmeriCorps related policies and procedures

  • Meets with program staff to annually assess and revise member training.

  • Assists Field Manager in Food Purchasing procedures and policies

  • Works with the Stewardship Director to ensure all AmeriCorps policies and procedures are adhered to.

 

Field Operations - 10%

  • Assists Field Manager with risk management

  • Assists Field Manager in field transportation logistics

  • Implement, monitor, and enforce all CCDC and CCYC Policies and Procedures

  • Help with training trips throughout the season

  • Participate in a weekly on-call system for crews in the field

 

Required Qualifications

  • Leadership experience at a Conservation Corps Program

  • Initiative to act independently with minimal supervision

  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and facilitating trainings

  • Supervisory and programming experience and ability to problem solve and respond competently to situations associated with managing young adults.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills 

  • Ability to multitask and be flexible with responsibilities

  • Demonstrated good judgment and problem solving in emergency situations

  • Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a fluid, changing work environment

  • Experience with Wilderness Medicine and an ability to attain a Wilderness First Aid Certification

  • Familiarity with AmeriCorps and local, state, and federal natural resource agencies

  • Clean and insurable driver’s record & valid driver’s license

  • Must be able to pass criminal history background checks

  • Desire to spend time in the company of young adults

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Wilderness First Aid Certification

  • S-212 Wildland Fire Chainsaw Certification

  • Experience managing Conservation Corps Members and their field work
