Position Title: Guide
Position Type: Seasonal (March - October)
Location: Monticello, Utah
Reports To: Adventure Education Director

OVERVIEW

Canyon Country Discovery Center is seeking passionate outdoor guides to contribute to our team. Founded in 1984, our organization has a history of inspiring participants of all ages to enjoy, appreciate, and learn about the unique history and natural wonders of the Colorado Plateau. This position will outfit and provide quality experiences to our guests running the San Juan River and hiking in the Bears Ears Region.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with adventure education trip preparation including rigging rafts, materials prep, food planning

• Assist with post-trip cleanup and debrief.

• Assist with ongoing gear maintenance.

• Develop personal knowledge of Colorado Plateau to enhance ability to deliver quality programming on adventure education trips.

• Available for Guide Training.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

• Positive attitude and ability to work in a challenging environment

• Familiar with Leave No Trace principles

• Availability from March through September

• Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder (to be complete by first trip)

• Experience working with a variety of participants in outdoor setting

• Familiar with natural systems on the Colorado Plateau

• Clean driving record

• Proof of legal status

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• College degree or experience in a related field (environmental studies, recreation, outdoor education, natural resources, education, etc.)

• Experience rowing or paddle guiding Class III

 

BENEFITS

Guides will be paid per diem at a rate based on experience. For those needing Wilderness First Aid training we will be hosting training in spring and upon completion of 8 days guiding we will waive the training cost.
